Martin Sweeney is an assistive technology specialist with over 25 years of experience working for a number of nonprofit organizations and agencies both nationally and in California. Currently working as a training specialist for the Center for Accessible Technology (CforAT), Sweeney is part of a statewide BTOP project promoting Broadband adoption funded by the California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF) and the federal National Transportation and Information Administration (NTIA).

Sweeney previously served as manager of the California AT Network (2006-09) and was the founding director of the Assistive Technology Project (1998-2005) for the Frank D. Lanterman Regional Center (FDLRC) in Los Angeles.

Sweeney has served as a volunteer and board member for a number of community-based organizations including:

• Tarjan Center at UCLA—A University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service; Community Advisory Committee
• Assistive Technology Consortium—A regional association of AT professionals working in Southern California; Member
• CTCNet—a national network of community-based organizations committed to improving the educational, economic, cultural and political life of their communities through technology; Board Member
• California Technology Organizing Consortium—A regional network of community-based organizations dedicated to promoting the equitable use of technology to improve the overall well-being and health of underserved communities in Southern California; Planning Committee Member
• Chanda Smith Consent Decree—A court settlement with the Los Angeles Unified School District to bring the district into compliance with federal and state laws regarding the education of students with disabilities); Co-chair, Staff Development Committee
• Other Voices—A project of the Mark Taper Forum, Other Voices was a professional development workshop for playwrights with disabilities; Advisory Board Member
• Unique People’s Voting Project—A voter registration project to promote the full participation of people with disabilities; Community Volunteer
