All, I wish to share with all the family research that Mary Brigid and I have been doing this summer into Mom's heritage. We had taken the information that Mom had on her birth, the information that Trish and Mary Brigid had gathered in previous visit to Our Lady of Victory/Father Baker's Home in Lackawanna, NY and the research that her neighbor Mrs. Saylor had done as our starting point. Mary and I both discovered the web site ancestry.com and had attempted over the past year ( on and off ) to use this to further research Mom's past. However by this spring it be clear that we needed someone more skilled in genealogy and there in Buffalo,NY to get more information. I was able to find a wonderful gal through ancestry.com to help us, Tamie Rovnak, Tracing Lives through Research. Her specialty is research genealogy for orphans and she had worked with Our Lady of Victory/Father Baker's Home in the past. She and I began to communicate early this summer and by August she had completed as much as possible in Lackawanna, NY. Our research concluded with a trip that Mom, Mary, Ed and I toke to Lackawanna/Buffalo,NY on August 7-8. We met with Tamie, toured Our Lady of Victory Basilica and Father Baker's Home, visited Holy Family Church were Mom was baptized and even found the homes of the Kemp's and Poppenburg's were Mom lived. Mom loved the trip and it was quite an experience. Mary and I have put together an album of the trip and it is at Mom's for all to enjoy. Also in the back of this album is a summary of Tamie Rovnak's research and copies of supporting documents ( I will be send these as attachments in another email ). Here's my synopsis: Mom was born at Father Baker's Infant Home of an unwed mother on August 12, 1924. Her mother was Lelia Bryant, age 27, lived in Maryland, was born in Virginia, was a sales clerk and was Baptist. There was no information about the father available. We were able to confirm that Mom lived with the Kemp's from 1927 to at least 1930 (age 3 - 6). We did locate two of the Kemp's home, one of which is still standing. We were able to locate the Poppenburg home were Mom lived later but no additional information about this family. Since finding out the name of Mom's birth mother, I have again been searching again on ancestry.com for her story. With my amateur research I have been able to locate a Lillia Bryant ( aka Lelia Bryant, aka Etta L. Bryant) that lived in Baltimore, was 26 or 27 at the time of Mom's birth, was born in Farnham, Virgina and was a sales clerk. I believe that she was Mom's mother. I am currently trying to further follow her history and hopefully find the Bryant family of Virginia who may be our cousins.
